THE Regional Trial Court (RTC) of Malolos, Bulacan, on Thursday affirmed its ruling, which found Army Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan and two other army officers guilty of kidnapping and serious illegal detention of two female University of the Philippines students in 2006 who have remained missing since.
In a two-page resolution issued by Malolos RTC Branch 15 Presiding Judge Alexander Tamayo, the trial court held that Palparan failed to raise new arguments that would warrant the court’s reversal of its decision that sentenced him and Lt. Col. Felipe Anotado Jr. and S/Sgt. Edgardo Osorio to reclusion perpetua or a maximum of 40 years.
“The court has carefully perused the argument raised in accused motion for reconsideration and those contained in the…comment/opposition, thereto, and finds the motion for reconsideration offering no justification to compel this court to modify or reverse the assailed decision datedSeptember 17, 2018,” the RTC decision said.
