The Commission on Elections will again tap shopping malls as one of the venues of their satellite voter registration.

Comelec Spokesman James Jimenez said they will re-activate their agreements with various malls for the mall registration.

Based on COMELEC Resolution No. 10549, Offices of Election Officers shall conduct at least one mandatory satellite registration of voters within the city or municipality in order to maximize the registration turnout.

Venues for satellite registration may include barangay hall or center; public and private schools and universities; malls and commercial establishments; and other public and convenient places.

According to Jimenez, OEOs are now required to announce the date and venue of the satellite registration three days before the actual conduct of the activity.

“There will be a sign to be put up and it will announce when and where it shall take place and how long it will take at that location,” he said in an interview.

Jimenez added that they even created a template of the “Notice to the Public” for this purpose.

“People should look for these announcements in the different OEOs when they go to register. We hope this will add to their convenience,” he said.

The voter registration period for the May 2022 polls started January 20 and will run until September 30, 2021.
